Who am I?

Hello, my name is Stephen Stosich I grew up in Utah and have lived most of my life bouncing between Utah and Idaho, with a few years living in Montana.

I studied Art in Highschool and University but have an associate’s in respiratory therapy and majored in Biology. I worked as a Respiratory Therapist for 14 years and Loved working with people. In 2019 my Acute and Chronic pain in my low back and legs made it impossible to continue working. It was at this time that I kind of lost myself. My identity and self-worth were very much tied to what I did. I felt like I went through the stages of grief, I had already done so with the loss of my marriage and here I was going through it all over with losing more of my abilities! I really struggled for a while and at times still do. Over the last few years, I have returned to drawing and painting, it started as Therapy, but I quickly fell in love with it all over.

I found that by “creating something” by doing drawings and paintings I was participating in something that was very healing.  Also, as I continue to learn to see things as they really are. I find I am discovering the beauty that is inside myself and I’m better able to recognize the beauty that surrounds me.  By looking for and focusing on beauty instead of my imperfections or limitations it freed me to explore the things that I can still do or adjust so I can try new things. Life is messy and we all have personal trials and pain but there is also beauty, and Love, and comedy and enlightenment.

The Journey

Art is more than just the finished product for the painter; it’s more than just developing skills in drawing or painting. It is the journey, the trial and error, the struggle, it is critical thinking and problem solving and looking at things from a new perspective.  Art encourages “divergent thinking” that there’s more than one right answer to a problem. It encourages expression of feelings and human connection. It can be transformative not only to the artist but to the viewer as well. I know I have felt transformed in time and place when experiencing the ceiling in the Sistine chapel I felt somehow connected through time. I imagined all the other people that had been there and seen it also. I have been transformed by Artists down through time to the present and have been made so much the better by it.

Interests

My interests include my 4 wonderful Sons whom I adore! I also come from a big, combined family with ten siblings.  I love nature and being close to Mountains.  I love Wildlife, and Biology, and the relationships between Man and Nature including Hunting, Fishing, Hiking, Camping, Farming, and Ranching to name a few.
